CHARACTERS IN-GAME: none

CHARACTER
NAME: Minako Arisato
CANON: Persona 3 Portable
CANON POINT: Immediately post-True Ending
AGE: 17 in canon, turned 18 in her previous time in Prismatica
BACKGROUND: She has the same backstory and overall plot arc as the male protagonist, so his history will cover the important points.

PERSONALITY:
While it always does female characters a disservice to describe them in comparison to a man, Minako's first principles are defined in contrast to her male counterpart, so we need to bring him up every now and then. I'll be calling him Minato here for ease of reference.

Where Minato largely coped with his childhood trauma by isolating himself, Minako learned to hide her loneliness and pain with a smile. Unlike him, before the game has begun she has already accepted her mortality, and her journey is more about supporting others in their own growth than coming to terms with the inevitability of death in her own right. This is demonstrated by her association with the Roman numeral XXII instead of Minato's 0; Minako is the Fool at the end of her emotional journey. It can be presumed that she was instilled with higher expectations of emotional intelligence by her parents and, later, her foster families.

Minako, at first glance, is a gregarious and energetic young woman. She's quick to make friends, is determined under all circumstances, and shows some serious type-A traits in juggling multiple massive obligations: top-level academic achievement, an active social life, leading SEES in the field, Tennis Club, Student Council, Library Committee, and the Cooking and Fashion Clubs. Junpei, one of her SEES teammates, states amazement at her ability to handle all of this—and privately, he and the others worry about her. Minako hides her pain, but not always well. She doesn't want to burden others, and as the leader of SEES, often finds herself split between the desire to appease everyone and the need to act decisively. The Fool represents endless possibility and potential, and Minako often tries to be everything to everyone, placing her own needs on hold as a result.

"Leave it to me!" is the closest thing she has to a catchphrase. Minako takes other people's burdens on herself like it's her job, and rarely opens her heart about her own troubles. She cares deeply for others—for everyone, really—and has little regard for herself, sometimes making it hard to get to truly know her. Still, she's loyal to a fault to those she's close to. This is a girl who tries to see the best in everyone, and to bring it out of them accordingly.

While Minako shows clear signs of depression and is accepting of her own mortality—a combination that can often end badly, for obvious reasons—she doesn't want to die. If anything, over the course of the game Minako finds more to live for. Her outward happiness becomes more genuine as she forms deep connections, finds a family, and falls in love. After giving up her life to seal Nyx, she even manages to hold on for a month to keep a promise that she and the others in SEES made to each other. Still, she admits at one point that she can understand why someone would have a death wish—likely indicating that she's at least had very low moments like that.

Minako began the game emotionally ready to face the end and become the Great Seal, in most respects, though obviously she didn't know that was coming. She only had to form bonds and find something worth giving her life for. She wasn't searching to martyr herself—she's simply the kind of person who wouldn't hesitate to do so if necessary. The form of her ultimate Persona being Messiah reflects this all-loving and self-sacrificing attitude, along with the messianic role that she accepts.

At her canon point, Minako's affected happiness and positivity are shaken pretty considerably. She'd run on embers for a month, dealing all the while with her friends temporarily forgetting her, with the girl she loves keeping her at arm's length for the final month of her life, until the very end. She knows that she fell asleep in Aigis's arms and won't wake up. She has no regrets; she did what had to be done, and for her loved ones' sake she'd do it again in a heartbeat. Still, the knowledge of her death and what it must have done to the people she cares for most—especially at what should have been a triumphant and happy moment for all of them—is haunting her. For the most part, she's keeping up the act and even making flippant jokes about her death from time to time. But around people she knows, the mask is slipping.

The Fool's Journey is cyclical, after all, and recovery isn't linear. Nobody's ever really done growing.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
Personas: This is the big one. The wiki link covers the big bullet points, but to reiterate the gist of it, Minako can summon facets of her psyche in physical form to unleash a variety of spells and attacks.

Wild Card: The link again covers everything important here. Minako, unlike most Persona users, is capable of using multiple Personas and switching freely between them. Minako won’t have access to her solo Fusion Spells in Prismatica, as they were treated as items in her game.

While she was able to hold up to 12 Personas within herself in canon, in Prismatica she’ll be limited to Orpheus Telos, Cybele, Mara, Thanatos, Messiah, and Metatron.

Persona user buff: Just having access to a Persona increases the user’s strength, endurance and stamina. In a Persona user’s hands, weapons are capable of more damage than they otherwise would be. Likewise, things that would ordinarily cause grievous injury will hurt her, but not necessarily enough to take Minako down in one hit. A Persona’s resistances and weaknesses will apply to her as well, even when not materialized, and damage to her Persona or hitting it badly enough to dematerialize it will cause her significant pain.

INVENTORY:
Her clothing and jewelry, her Evoker, a neck-strap MP3 player, clip-on headphones, and a naginata.

MOONBLESSING: Cordis!
