[ a short time later there's a soft knock at minako's door and an anxious yukari waiting to be let in. everything was gonna be fine. probably. ]

[ she opens the door after a moment, koromaru poking his head out from behind minako's legs. ]

Hey, Koromaru, back up, it's just Yukari... [ she grins at her, opening the door wider and gesturing an invitation. ]

Hi!

[ seeing her favorite person and favorite pet in lunatia at the same time goes a long way toward soothing yukari's nerves. she readjusts the gift-wrapped box in the crook of her arm (pink wrapping paper, obviously) and grins right back. ]

Hey! [ she steps inside, kissing minako on the cheek before leaning down to ruffle koromaru's ears. ]

How's my good boy? Keeping Minako out of trouble?

[ koromaru drops onto his haunches and barks once, as if going yeah, obviously. minako shoots him a look, even if she sounds amused as hell. ]

Hey, Koromaru, that's not fair! Look at you two, bullying a cute girl like this.

Aw, you should be proud that he's telling the truth. [ yukari gives koromaru one last pet then straightens and turns to minako with gift outstretched. ]

Hopefully, this'll make up for the bullying. No hard feelings, right?

Hah, you know I can't stay mad at you. [ she takes the wrapped gift with a smile, turning to step further into the apartment. ] Thanks. Can I go ahead and open it?

[ she gives her a shit-eating grin that practically says 'oh, i know,' but stays quiet on the matter. probably not the best time. ] Yeah, go ahead! ...just don't shake it. It's kinda fragile. Everything looked fine when I got it from the Ware Wolf Shop, but Lumi doesn't seem like the kind of store owner who does refunds or returns.

[ the first thing that might catch her eye is the huge phoenix featherman victory logo on the front of the box. there's the typical sentai team gracing the cover. you got your red one, your blue one, etc. and in the center of them all is yukari--no, pink argus, looking every inch a hero of justice while doing her signature pose.

the special features on the back has a basic synopsis of seasons 1-3 and boasts a few of its special features: exclusive cast interviews and behind the scenes footage, a foldout poster, clean openings and endings. clearly, the studio had gone all out with this release.

yukari stands silent during the entire unwrapping process, eyes never leaving minako's face. had this been a birthday gift under normal circumstances, she would crack a joke or talk more about the DVD itself, but.... what even counted as normal anymore? ]

[ she cracks a smile, looking it over in silence for a long moment. really, minako almost looks like she might cry--

minako closes the gap between them and throws her arms around yukari's neck, pressing a kiss to her cheek before hiding her face in her shoulder. ]

I love it, Yukari. [ this hit her harder than she was expecting, but she means it. ] Let's start going through it soon, okay? You can give me all the fun behind the scenes gossip.

[ in that long moment, yukari's chest constricts with the familiar fear that she's fucked something up. if only she were mitsuru, always charming with some relevant french turn of phrase. or aigis, always so genuine and more human than all of sees put together.

anyone but yukari takeba, always skirting around the important things she wants to say with a sharp tongue.

when minako hugs her, she lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding and wraps her in a tight hug. yukari doesn't want to fuck this up. not ever. ]

Okay. We'll start whenever you want. [ she huffs a laugh. ] And you got it. I'll even point out that time I sprained my ankle on camera.

What, you mean the great Pink Argus isn't grace and poise all the time?! [ she breaks into snickering, holding on tightly. ]

But, uh... we should... probably talk about a few things, right? That's not a there's a big problem "we need to talk" at all, but... you know... [ she doesn't sound happy to be bringing it up, but she's not pulling away at all. it's okay yukari. nothing's fucked up. ]

...yeah. We should. [ this is literally the last thing she wants right now, but there's only so much putting off you can do. yukari reluctantly pulls away after giving minako a gentle squeeze, hands moving to rest on her shoulders. ] Where do we start?

[ her hand goes to yukari's hair when she pulls back, tucking a stray bit behind her ear. ]

We're together, right? I guess... we should figure out what that actually means, in a place like this...?

[ there's a weight to "together" that makes yukari want to whoop with joy and run out of the room in sheer panic at the same time. she does neither. ]

We're past the two-month mark so yeah. Definitely together. If nothing else, I know I want to stay like this with you. This has been--I mean.... I don't have a good word for it, but I.... I like it. A lot.

[ yukari can't settle on one, really. amazing? painful? overwhelming? ]

Still, the moons make a lot of the usual couple rules kinda hard. [ she grimaces. ] Stupid Cordis. [ a deeper grimace. ] Stupid Iris.

[ minako giggles, giving her another squeeze. ] I like this too. I don't want to stop, promise.

[ hmmm. ]

[ damn. minako grins, though, even if there's an embarrassed flush across her cheeks now. ]

[ there's a beat of silence. two.

and then she just laughs so hard there's tears in her eyes. she can't help it. that look of utter embarrassment on minako's face was priceless.

ordinarily, yukari would be extremely upset, but prismatica had changed a lot of perspectives. ]

I wanna say I'm surprised or mad or anything, but you were not trying to hide that you were into Rise-chan, at all. You were so obvious in the group chat. Did you pick up all your flirting skills from Junpei?

You're so mean, Yukari! [ she's laughing too, though, even if she had that huffy puffed-up cheeks look for a second. ] She reacted a lot, it was fun! Maybe I laid it on a little too much, but it worked! And besides, I never had to learn to flirt, you know I've never had trouble attracting people...

So you thought Ryoji-kun and Junpei were good examples? I let you hang out with them way too much. [ she rolls her eyes and leans forward to kiss one of minako's red cheeks. ] And yeah, I'm pretty aware that you've got a way with people. You're gonna meet someone who doesn't immediately fall at your feet one day, you know.

[ she huffs again, pulling her towards the couch. ] That does happen! That's when you've gotta be their friend just to spite them.

So, I told you what happened, unless you want details... Your turn!

[ yukari is more than happy to be pulled onto the couch. standing was starting to suck. even as she loops her arm around minako's waist, she can't help blushing at the memory of being with someone else. ]

I think I'm good not knowing the details, thank you very much. As for me, well.... It was Iris and stuff kinda escalated at Greatmoon Groves and I made out with Ha--Noir while we were laying in the grass? Everything happened really fast.
